The beginning of African American contributions to this nation began in 1619 right here in Virginia, specifically at Fort Monroe in Hampton, where the first Africans to English North America arrived.  On the next Another View, we'll talk about that first landing, and about the pivotal role Fort Monroe played in slavery and emancipation. Our guests include Cassandra Newby-Alexander, Ph.D, Historian and Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Norfolk State University, and Terry Brown, Superintendent, National Park Service Fort Monroe National Monument.  Join us as we look back at the history...and look forward as Virginia prepares to commemorate the 400th year of the beginning of our nation. It's all on Another View, Friday, June 1 at noon on 89.5 WHRV-FM, or stream us live on this blog!
