She used her journalistic skills combined with business acumen to advocate for civil rights and women's rights. Lucile H. Bluford was a journalist, editor and publisher of the black newspaper, the Kansas City Call.  Through her writings, Bluford called attention to injustices and inequalities in the Black community and among feminists, issues such as equal access to decent jobs, affordable health care and housing, education, politics and women's rights. Author Shelia Brooks, Ph.D, shares the story of this activist voice for social justice in her new book, "Lucile H. Bluford and the Kansas City Call".
